A brief exam captures a moment. A 24-hour Holter records your dog’s heart rhythm through an ordinary day—rest, play, meals, and sleep—helping reveal intermittent rhythm changes that may otherwise go unseen.
WHY HOLTER?
Heart rhythm abnormalities can be intermittent. A Holter is a portable electrocardiogram that follows a dog for 24 hours, creating a much broader view than a short in-clinic reading.
For Dobermans and other breeds at increased risk of cardiac disease, screening before symptoms appear can provide information that helps owners, breeders, and veterinarians make better-informed decisions.
A LIFETIME PRACTICE
Haus of Hound recommends an annual 24-hour Holter and echocardiogram beginning at age two for Dobermans, even when a dog appears completely healthy. Your veterinarian or veterinary cardiologist may recommend a different schedule based on breed, family history, prior results, symptoms, or an existing diagnosis.
THE RENTAL PROCESS
Share your location, preferred dates, dog’s breed, and whether the recording is for routine screening, veterinary monitoring, or OFA submission.
A signed rental agreement is required. Any refundable security deposit is confirmed based on rental logistics and shipping distance.
Your rental includes the ALBA Medical DR400, one 24-hour recording, setup instructions, and support if questions arise during placement.
Download the recording with a Windows computer, send it to the appropriate reviewer, and return the equipment within the agreed rental window.
WHAT IS INCLUDED
Extended rental periods may be available for an additional fee.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT
A Windows computer is required to download and process the recording. Please confirm access before reserving the monitor.
If you already work with a veterinary cardiologist, ask whether they can review your recording and how they prefer to receive the file.

FOR BREEDING PROGRAMS
For Doberman and Boxer owners pursuing OFA Advanced Cardiac certification, a cardiologist-reviewed Holter report may be submitted with an echocardiogram completed within 90 days of the Holter study.
Confirm current OFA requirements before testing so the examining cardiologist, dates, identification, and submitted documentation meet the applicable standard.
