THE HAUS GUIDE · SETTLING IN

A quiet beginning.
A lasting rhythm.

The first week is less about showing your puppy everything and more about teaching them how life with you feels: predictable, patient, and safe.

REST

Protect sleep

Young puppies may sleep 16–20 hours a day. Schedule calm time after meals, play, training, and every new experience.

FOOD

Transition gradually

Continue the familiar food first. If changing diets, use the transition schedule provided at go-home and slow down if the digestive system needs more time.

ROUTINE

Repeat the day

Use a consistent loop: wake, potty, food or play, a few minutes of learning, potty again, then rest.

BOND

Be present without hovering

Offer affection and engagement while also teaching your puppy to settle safely with a chew or food toy when you step away.

A SIMPLE FIRST-WEEK PLAN

One new thing at a time.

  1. Days 1–2Home, immediate family, crate, potty area, and the first veterinary visit.
  2. Days 3–4A short car ride, one calm visitor, gentle handling, and one new surface or sound.
  3. Days 5–7A controlled outing, a little alone-time practice, and enrollment in an appropriate puppy class.
Educational guidance, not individual veterinary care.

Every puppy and household is different. Follow your veterinarian’s instructions and contact them promptly when you have health or safety concerns.
